HAPPY THANKSGIVING BREAK!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving with friends and family!

Alpha/Bravo Christmas Concert: Friday, 12/6/19. Doors open @ 5:30.

Have a happy Thanksgiving! Here’s what’s happened this week and what will be happening when we return.

We have COMPLETED our five paragraph research papers on bats. We continue the unit on Fairy Tales with story elements. We will analyze Beauty and the Beast and The Three Little Pigs. In math, we continue double-digit addition. We will continue to study adverbs and sentence writing.

We had visitors to our class this week to help us with some difficult math games.
We are getting this double digit adding with regrouping!
We practiced the regrouping concept with pennies and dimes, TRADE UP!
First graders are practicing making a ten to simplify adding.
We also heard the story of the Pilgrims, Squanto, and Samoset. We learned how the Massasoit Indian taught the Pilgrims to plant corn with fish to fertilize the corn. We planted our own fish math facts with real field corn.
In race to 100, students add to ten with a ten-frame and trade up with ten sticks. This is preparing them for 2nd grade math concepts.

2nd Grade Spelling Week 15:oo,- ew,

First graders will be learning about cause and effect, synonyms and antonyms, and writing complete sentences with punctuation. We will continue learning about adding within twenty and subtraction concepts.
