English 111 and 206 Grades

Hello dual-credit students and parents,

As you may have noticed, Skyward grades have looked really bizarre this term. By the end of the 6 weeks, some students were recorded with percentages as high as 194% while others were at a -13%. None of these were the actual grades.

The dual credit English classes are calculated as a traditional college class, not term-by-term like APA’s high school classes are. Skyward, however, is set to have certain traits for all classes. We have determined that entering individual assignment grades is interfering with Skyward’s ability to generate a correct percentage at the end of a term.

Going forward, I will record the current course grades (not assignment grades) in Skyward at week 2. At week 2 I will delete those grades and enter percentages for week 5. At the end of a grading period, I will delete these grades and enter the current course grade as a term grade. At the end of the semesters, the current grade will be recorded for Semester 1 and the final course grade will be recorded as the Semester 2 final grade.

In addition, please be aware that APA and Ivy Tech use different grading scales and methods. This is especially important as Ivy Tech rounds grades differently than APA and does not use +/- grades. As an example, Skyward will round a grade of 89.55 at the end of a semester to a 90 A-. This, however, would be an 89 B with Ivy Tech.

Up-to-date assignment grades can, as always, be tracked on Schoology. Parents can request a code and Schoology sign up instructions from me if they would like to monitor individual grades and have access to course materials.

Today is Face-Off Friday! Instructions can be found here (and in class). Your task is to re-create a famous artwork and made thoughtful changes. You will either need to redraw the artwork on your own, or you can use one of the print-outs as a starting point. Best crafted and most unique will win a prize Monday (so will last week’s FOF winners).

ALL CLASSES: All projects are due by the end of class today. You MUST turn in to the tray on my middle table by 3:30pm. Most projects have already be submitted and graded, but there are still several people who haven’t turned anything in.

Use your time in class wisely today, make good choices, and have a weekend! <3
