I can’t believe this is already our second to last week of school! There will not be any homework sent home this week or next due to the fact that we are doing more review activities instead of new concepts. I do encourage the students to still practice their math facts and read for 20 minutes each night though.

This Thursday night is our APA Carnival. It is going to be LOTS of fun! I encourage you and your family to come!

I will be reading with your children this week to find out their new reading levels for the end of the year.

This week we continue Unit 8.21-25 about plants that eat insects. We will learn about predicting, contractions, and asking questions to understand better. Vocabulary words to study: insect, wetlands, minerals, attracts, and trapping.

In math we are going to review place value. We will practice ten more and ten less from any number.  We will also review visualizing numbers by tens and ones. Please complete and return the e-learning day assignment as soon as possible. If you ever need to contact me, I would prefer that you e-mail me at vlester@goapa.org  Thanks for all you do!

2nd  Grade:

This week in reading we continue to learn about different animals, what they eat, the things that are dangerous to them, and habitats.  We will learn how to create a power point presentation.  The kids will also learn to make an outline that they will later turn into a table of contents, create headings, and copy and paste pictures from the internet to their presentation. We are also reviewing contractions. Compass is now being used in place of Waterford and will be the basis for grading on our last report card. This program is for older students, and gives me better data to plan lessons and address your student’s learning needs.

In math we are going to review place value. We will practice ten more and ten less from any number.  We will also review visualizing numbers by tens and ones. This has been a struggle that is holding us back from adding and subtracting with regrouping. Please complete and return the e-learning day assignment as soon as possible. If you ever need to contact me, I would prefer that you e-mail me at vlester@goapa.org  Thanks for all you do!
